Fayetteville, North Carolina is home to Fort Bragg, the U.S. Army's largest installation by population, a name that has itself had an eventful recent history: renamed Fort Liberty in 2023, it reverted to Fort Bragg in February 2025 in honor of WWII paratrooper Roland L. Bragg. The area code tied to Fayetteville followed its own winding path.
