All of it falls within area code 754, activated for service August 1, 2001 as an all-services overlay on area code 954, which had itself split from Florida's original statewide 305 code on September 11, 1995.

NANPA announced the new overlay on December 4, 2000 after the Florida Public Service Commission approved relief for Broward County ahead of projected numbering exhaustion in 954 by 2002; 754 began actual use with mandatory ten-digit dialing on April 1, 2002. Because it is an overlay rather than a split, Broward County residents may hold either 954 or 754 with no distinction in location.
