Area code 952 arrived on February 27, 2000, when the Twin Cities' original 612 territory was split three ways: Minneapolis kept 612, the northwest suburbs became 763, and the southwest and south-central suburbs -- Bloomington, Edina, Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Burnsville, Chaska, Shakopee and dozens more communities -- became 952. NANPA had assigned both new codes back on November 29, 1999, ahead of the cutover.

Unlike many of its Twin Cities siblings, 952 has never needed an overlay.
